We thought that a beginner’s guide to WILD HEARTS would be an excellent way to introduce the new game. Like any monster hunting game WILD HEARTS is packed with features. However, after spending too many hours with it, I have compiled a list of tips and tricks to help you get the most out of the game.
Understanding the Karakuri
The Karakuri System is one of the most important ways that WILD HEARTS differs from other genre leaders like Capcom Monster Hunter. It allows players to create things with varying levels of complexity in order to aid them during their hunts. Karakuri are available in three different varieties: Basic, Fusion, and Dragon. The basic Karakuri consist of simple items like springs, blocks and torches. They can be easily thrown and immediately used. Springs allow you to dash and jump in one direction while blocks will let you leap higher than usual. You’ll also get a lot of frames for invincibility. Mix and match is possible, for example, you can put a spring on top a box in order to jump higher.
Fusion Karakuri is made by combining Karakuri into different configurations. This makes them a complex machine. Bulwark is the simplest of these, made from two rows of three blocks. They are best when used to compliment your own attack on monsters. Fusion Karakuri can also be used in a situational way, such as the Bulwark, which is useful when Kemono are charging at you. It blocks their attack and throws them to their backs, opening them for an attack.
WILD HEARTS – Karakuri
The Karakuri System is one of the most important ways that WILD HEARTS differs from other genre titans such as Capcom’s Monster Hunter.
These structures are permanent, such as camps, tents and forges. They can also be used to build hunting towers. They allow you to customize any hunting area to suit your needs. You can build a base or even set up Flying Vines, a network ziplines in WILD HEARTS to speed you through the map.
Use Karakuri Freely
It’s crucial to become comfortable with the Karakuri. You can speed up your downtime by using spring Karakuri to get from a Kemono. The fact that bases and ziplines can be built anywhere is also a good way to encourage exploration and customization. In order to save resources for the Dragon Karakuri build, WILD HEARTS allows you to destroy structures that are not needed and get the resources back. It’s crucial to test out different basic and Fusion Karakuri during the hunts and find what weapon works best.
Create New Camps for Faster Traveling across a Large Map
Setting up base camps is an important aspect of using a Karakuri. There are some loose suggestions on the maps of WILD HEARTS for good camp spots marked with a tree which can replenish your healing items. However, it is important to remember that you have complete freedom when deciding where to put a tent and forge. It’s better to make use of the resources you have, than ignore them. You can also travel faster between areas on the same map by setting up new camp.
Discover Your Favorite Weapon
In true WILD HEARTS monster-hunting fashion, there are eight unique weapon types that you can choose from. Each one is utterly different. It’s great to experiment with the various weapons, but it is also important that you learn one weapon and use it as your primary.
The weapons have different styles of play, such as the never-ending barrage of attacks the Maul, Claw Blade, and Nodachi encourages. The Bow and Hand Cannon allows you to maintain distance. Another option for defense-oriented players is the Bladed Wagasa, an umbrella that has sharp edges and can be used as a parrying weapon. You have a wide range of choices in WILD HEARTS. By familiarizing yourself with the core options, you will be able to enjoy your game more.
There are eight types of weapons in WILD HEARTS, each one incredibly unique.
Training dummies can also be used to access small tutorials on how each weapon is used and works with the different Karakuri. It took me about 10 hunts to start favoring the Claw Blade over other weapons. For future hunts, I will continue to switch weapons.
Fear not of Hunting Failures
Failure in Monster Hunting Games is meant to teach you something, just like it is with FromSoftware’s SoulsBorne series. Don’t hesitate to take on more than you are capable of when deciding what Kemono you want to hunt. You might not succeed, but you will have gained enough knowledge about Kemono attack patterns that you can use in future encounters. You might learn that your gear is outdated and you need to upgrade it.
The best food and baths
Uncovering the surprisingly complex buff system that lies beneath WILD HEARTS’s relentless gameplay is a pleasant surprise. Food gives temporary upgrades that only last for one hunt. Baths, on the other hand, give permanent upgrades like an increase in health. The way these systems operate can, however, be quite complex.
You can gather food in the wilderness when out on your Kemono hunting expeditions. Stocking up on random vegetables and meat from smaller Kemono is an excellent way to get food, particularly in the beginning of your game. To refine these foods, you’ll need to do so as quickly as possible, using structures such as the drying rack. This will make the effects of these foods more powerful. The idea of having several drying racks is good for a variety of reasons, including the fact that you can refine more food faster. This applies to anyone who, like myself, has the tendency of picking up everything they see as you walk through an area.
When you are out on your Kemono hunting expeditions, food can be found in the wilderness.
Unlocked baths are easy to use. You’ll unlock fancy baths that require specific materials. While these materials are difficult to locate, they’re worth the effort because baths can give you a permanent boost in health.
Tsukumo Upgrades Add Up Over Time
The little Karakuri companion that you bring along to hunt Kemono becomes an integral part of the hunting experience. Tsukumo won’t be much help in your first hunts. You can improve your Tsukumo by exploring the various maps in the game and finding hidden Tsukumo. You can choose to have your Tsukumo focus more on dealing damage. You can also choose to have your Tsukumo heal your Karakuri or provide extra threads. You can upgrade your Tsukumo by talking to any campfire.
How to use the Hunter Arm
In WILD HEARTS, causing injuries and breaking parts is an important aspect of the hunt for Kemono. Hunter Arm lets you jump onto these giant glowing blue patches of Kemono and sucking out thread for your Karakuri. Hunter Arm is not just about the thread, but also some armor skills. Hunter Arm can heal you when wearing an early-game armor. You can also get an attack boost from another armor piece. Hunter Arm can be easily forgotten, but it is an important feature that will make your hunts more exciting.
The Human/Kemono Divide in Gear
You’ll be upgrading weapons and armor frequently in this game. One interesting feature that you can use is to have your armor more inclined towards either the Human or Kemono sides. In addition to the passive bonuses that come with this choice, you can also choose to focus on one of two relatively powerful armor skills. It’s important to note that there are passive stat bonuses you should consider. The armor will also gain a defense boost and an elemental resistance boost if you switch it either way.
WILD HEARTS – Golden Tempest
The ability to tilt your armor towards either the Human or Kemono sides is a very interesting feature.
It’s easy to overlook the fact that WILD HEARTS offers a tree of upgrades. Spending currency earned from hunting and going through a tree is all it takes to upgrade your Karakuri. Upgrades can be as simple as unlocking a decorative Lantern for a Dragon Karakuri, to something more important such as upgrading the capacity to carry healing items or letting Flying Vine damage Kemono. Upgrade your items!
The Side Quests are Very Useful
Side quests are often overlooked, yet they do a lot to fill out the storylines of characters and give you materials that will save you time grinding out Ore. You can use side quests to complete hunts you will have to do again, as you need to collect a large amount of material for the next update. You can also fight Kemono in side quests earlier than you would normally encounter them. This will allow you to get upgrades fairly early.
Do not rush the story
It’s fun to follow the WILD HEARTS narrative, but you should take breaks and occasionally sell your roses. It’s good to do side quests to keep your equipment up-to-date. You can also pass time by exploring a new map and building a speed-travel infrastructure using Flying Vines and camps. Material gathering is also important. Materials like Corestone, which are available early in the game, can be used to upgrade weapons later on.
It is good to have a short break and take on weaker Kemono in order to complete side quests.
Fisherman Quests
There is a soft tutorial that runs alongside the WILD HEARTS tutorial. This tutorial is a set of simple quests from Minato, the Fisherman. These are given to encourage you to complete various tasks in return for rewards. The quests can be quite easy, and range from hunting Kemono to gathering certain amounts of wood. It’s possible to hold five quests at once, but it is worth asking the fisherman if they can be turned in and you get some more. The quests can be completed as part of normal play.
Remember these Co-op Tips
Like any other hunting game that’s worth its salt and like its other features, WILD HEARTS has a co-op mode. It is a great way to set the game apart from others. It is important to keep in mind that unlike Monster Hunter, if your co-op partners die in combat, you can revive them. By doing so before the countdown begins, you can prevent the hunter from losing their limited number of lives.
The co-op mode is also an enjoyable way to create the infrastructure needed to support the various maps of WILD HEARTS. It’s worth remembering, though, that the Karakuri created by the players will only be available in the game hosted. To gain access, they would have to recreate them within their game. You should also be aware that the only person who can destroy Karakuri is the game host, regardless of whether it was constructed by another player.
Co-op allows you to explore some interesting synergies among weapons. The classic tank and dps roles can be played by having the Bladed Wagasa used while the Hand Cannon is being utilized. Use a Bow and a Claw Blade together to continue hammering the Kemono. The possibilities are limitless, with so many options available.
